Fremstad leads B-T past Eleva-Strum
Cain Fremstad’s passing stats in Friday’s Dairyland Conference game against Eleva-Strum last Friday likely won’t stick out as a high note when the Blair-Taylor senior looks back on his final season of high school football.
His performance on the ground, however, will give him plenty to smile about.
Fremstad racked up 134 yards on 14 carries, including touchdown runs of 13, 17 and 52 yards in a 27-0 win.
The senior showed he was poised for a big night early in the game, as Fremstad opened the scoring on a 13-yard run less than a minute into the first quarter.
Coach Andy Nehring said his players “rose to the occasion” in the win.
“It was another step forward for our young team,” Nehring said. “There were many good learning opportunities tonight.”
Sophomore Jackson Shramek scored on a 12-yard run midway through the second to make it 14-0 after the two-point pass from Fremstad to Gabe Armitage. Fremstad added a 17-yard touchdown run with 49 seconds left in the half. Zack Nitek’s point after made the score 21-0 at halftime.
Fremstad added the dagger with 3:24 left in the fourth quarter as be broke loose for a 52-yard touchdown, making the score 27-0.
Shramek finished with 78 yards on 17 carries and contributed on defense with seven tackles and a forced fumble. Junior Gabe Armitage led the Wildcats with 11 tackles.
Blair-Taylor (2-1) hosts Independence/Gilmanton (0-3) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Indees are coming off of a 40-14 loss to Augusta (see story elsewhere in Sports).
