G-E-T’s Bautista, Mayer finish in top 10 at Westby invite

Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau’s junior duo of Adrian Bautista and Carson Mayer each posted a top-10 finish to help lead the Red Hawks to a successful day in Westby.

Bautista was the runner-up in the boys’ 5,000-meter run at last Tuesday’s Westby Invitational, crossing the finish line in 17 minutes, 41.9 seconds to place behind only Sparta’s Ben Carney (17:00.3), who won the race.

Mayer earned himself an eighth-place finish to help fuel the Red Hawks to a third-place result as a team with 101 points, behind only Sparta (70) in first and Iowa-Grant (75) in second. Bautista and Mayer were followed by AJ Earney in 27th, Mitch Caya in 29th and Cavin Spitzmacher in 35th.

The G-E-T girls wound up in fifth in the team standings, guided by Ruby Johnson in 25th, Isabella Tibbitts in 31st, Charlee McCutchen in 38th, Nora Higgins in 39th and Lily Graham in 43rd.
