There was no shortage of offense for the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School baseball team last week.

The Red Hawks scored 31 runs over three games, losing by a single run to Mauston on Monday before splitting a doubleheader with Westby on Saturday. Onalaska Luther trailed G-E-T 2-0 through five innings on Tuesday, but the rest of the game was delayed due to weather.

Owen Eddy had himself a weekend, hitting five-for-six with a pair of home runs (one grand slam), nine RBI and four scores.

G-E-T was scheduled to visit Blair-Taylor on Monday before hosting Arcadia on Tuesday.

The rally caps were out for the Red Hawks in a tight loss to Mauston last Monday.

Mauston built up a 7-2 lead through four innings after battling back from a 1-0 deficit through the first inning.

A two-run sixth inning cut the Red Hawks’ deficit a bit, and G-E-T followed it up with three more runs in the top of the seventh before Mauston ended the game with its final out. Four Red Hawks hit doubles in the effort, and Zach Grams and Cole Williams each finished two-for-four from the batter’s box.

Collin Handke and Warren Stoner split the pitching duties for G-E-T, combining for six strikeouts and four walks.

Westby 8 G-E-T 6

The host Norsemen put G-E-T on the opposite end of a comeback effort to open a doubleheader on Saturday, as Westby scored three runs over the last two innings to eke out the win.

The teams played to a 2-2 tie through four innings, with G-E-T scoring both of its runs in the bottom of the first. Westby scored three runs in the top of the fifth, but the Red Hawks matched their output in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run homer from Eddy to keep things tied.

A single run in the bottom of the seventh inning wasn’t enough for G-E-T to get the win.

Eddy finished three-for-three, and Grams had two hits. Three Red Hawk pitchers combined for 11 walks and two strikeouts, allowing seven hits.

Seventeen runs through the first three innings was a recipe for five innings of baseball and the Red Hawks’ first win of the season in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Eddy’s grand slam in the top of the second inning pushed G-E-T’s tight lead to an 8-2 cushion, and the Red Hawks kept the scoring coming after.

Eddy finished two-for-three with six RBI. Brady Seiling added a pair of hits and three RBI, while Jack Beedle and Zach Grams each recorded doubles.

The Red Hawks allowed five hits and struck out six Westby batters, walking four.
