G-E-T boys fourth, girls sixth at Wausau meet

A fourth-place finish for the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School boys cross country team and a seventh place finish for G-E-T sophomore Adrianna Rotering led the Red Hawks in an invitational race in Wausau last Saturday.

The Smiley Invitational combined a number of teams from around the state with the G-E-T boys taking fourth in the D2/D3 varsity portion and the girls team finishing sixth. 

G-E-T is scheduled to run in a meet at University of Minnesota on Friday.

Senior Evan Burmeister led the G-E-T boys in 18 minutes, 16.3 seconds, good for 28th place. The winning time came in at 16:52.6.

Senior Carter Gold came in just after Burmeister, taking 33rd with a time of 18:33.3. Sophomore Collin Handke ran an 18:52.6 (42nd), senior Lance Jumbeck ran an 18:55.2 (47th) and sophomore Xander Burmeister placed 50th in 18:57.3.

Rotering’s top-10 finish came in 20:41.3, and the Red Hawks also got times of 21:50.2 (30th) from freshman Delilah Boberg, 22:18.7 (40th) from senior Quinn Wenthe, 22:19.4 (41st) from sophomore AJ Parker and 23:03.2 (57th) from senior Breann Harris.

West Salem topped the 17-team boys field with 63 points followed by Little Chute, 68; Pacelli, 165; G-E-T, 167 and Auburndale, 184 to round out the top five. 

Little Chute and West Salem were on top of the girls standings too, this time with the former scoring 58 points to the latter’s 85. Kiel was third with 85 points, followed by Tomahawk, 123; Albany, 131 and G-E-T, 145. There were 16 girls teams in the D2/D3 portion of the race.
