G-E-T boys, I/G girls top C-FC XC meet
Teams from the Times area took the top spots at the Jesse Brone Invitational held at Cochrane-Fountain City High School last Thursday.
Five of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau’s boys runners finished inside the top 12 as the team won the meet by nearly 30 points. The I/G girls team had two runners crack the top five and four in the top 12 as it edged the host by two points.
The Red Hawks ran in a pack as Carter Giemza finished first for the team and seventh overall, one spot ahead of Adrian Bautista. Mason Busch, Sawyer Smock and AJ Earney finished consecutively, taking 10th, 11th and 12th. The team’s sixth and seventh runners were inside the top 25 as Carson Mayer finished 23rd and Oliver Marley was 24th.
The top overall runner from the area was Blair-Taylor’s Thomas Brandt, who finished fourth overall. Teammate Jacob Olson finished 14th, but there was a big gap between him and the next B-T runner. Armoni Samples finished 61st, Wyatt Schrock was 75th and Jerick Cornejo took 81st.
Whitehall had perhaps the youngest team in the meet with five freshmen amongst its top seven runners.
Junior Ashton Hanson had the best finish on the team, taking 44th overall. The next five Whitehall runners were all freshmen as Evander Peterson finished 47th; Erick Aguilar Paralta, 55th; Colby Santos, 62nd; Finn Anderson, 73rd and Christopher Mann, 74th. Cayden Faldet-Platteter, a sophomore, was the team’s seventh runner, taking 76th overall.
Owen Gierok finished 28th for the I/G boys.
Taylor Sylla finished second overall for the I/G girls, about 20 seconds behind 2022 state champion and 2023 state qualifier Addy Duellman of C-FC. Anna Kent took fifth for the Indees while Sophia Kampa finished 11th and Allie Sylla was 12th. Angie Martinez rounded out the top five by taking 45th overall and Hannah Gierok was 56th.
Delilah Boberg was the top runner for third-place G-E-T, taking 14th overall. The Red Hawks were bunched together as Ruby Johnson finished 16th, Charlee McCutchen, 17th; Bella Tibbits, 18th; Jazzy Tarjeson, 19th and Anya Wolfe, 20th. Ellie Cox was the team’s seventh runner, finishing 33rd overall.
Kelsey Lien had the top finish for B-T, taking 25th overall while Jadrean Borreson was 38th and Ally Jorgenson finished 43rd.
Alexis Kurth took 36th for Whitehall while Natalee Herber finished 50th and Adreanna Hemenway was 61st.
