G-E-T boys second, Arcadia third at CC meet
West Salem was the clear top team, but Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau and Arcadia took the next two spots at the 47th annual Coulee Conference Championship competition in Ettrick on Thursday.
The Panthers had a perfect team score with West Salem runners taking the first six spots in the race. While only the first five runners count toward a team score, runners from West Salem made up 10 of the first 14 spots. The lone exceptions were runners from third-place Arcadia and runner-up G-E-T. The G-E-T girls finished fourth in the competition and Arcadia was sixth.
The Arcadia and G-E-T teams turn to the postseason this week, both running in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Two Black River Falls sectional on Friday. From there, the first two teams and the fastest five individuals not on the qualifying teams will advance to the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids next Saturday.
CC Championship
It was mostly West Salem early, but G-E-T and Arcadia sprinkled runners in to take second and third in the competition.
Both G-E-T and Arcadia had two runners finish inside the top 14, but G-E-T’s depth separated it from its county opponent as the Red Hawks scored 65 points to Arcadia’s 98.
Adrian Bautista led G-E-T and took 10th overall, while Carter Giemza was 14th. All seven of G-E-T’s runners finished inside the top 30 — whereas Arcadia’s third runner was 32nd.
Sawyer Smock finished 15th followed by Calvin Spitzmacher, 17th; Liam Caya, 22nd; Connor McDonnell, 26th and Emiliano Porello, 29th.
Alec Conrad was the top county runner, taking seventh overall. Andy Monroy Ramirez finished 11th for Arcadia, but then there was a gap. The team’s third runner was Diego Ortiz, who finished 32nd overall followed by Camren Schultz, 34th; Yahir Gonzalez Bolanos, 39th; Jairo Aguilar Hernandez, 43rd and Irbin Ortiz Reyes, 51st.
The G-E-T girls had five runners crack the top-25 as it took fourth in the team standings.
Ruby Johnson led the way, taking 17th overall followed by Reyna Garcia, 20th; Anya Wolfe, 22nd; Jazzy Tarjeson, 24th and Bella Tibbitts, 25th. Charlee McCutchen was 33rd and Ellie Cox, 34th, for G-E-T.
Linsy Cruz Angel was Arcadia’s top runner, taking 48th overall while Malanie Moreno finished 42nd; Abbye Rojas, 55th; Tracy Gomez Asencio, 57th; Shaylah Rodriguez, 60th; Julissa Gutierrez Cossio, 62nd and Abigail Simon Crespo, 64th.
