G-E-T boys second, Arcadia third at Sporty Salsman Invitational

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau and Arcadia boys teams placed second and third in the team standings at the Sporty Salsman Invitational last weekend.

The host Red Hawks accrued 120.5 team points and the Raiders were just behind them with 119 points at the Sporty Salsman Invitational this past Friday at G-E-T High School. Only West Salem finished ahead of G-E-T and Arcadia in first with 133 points.

G-E-T gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about with first-place finishes in six different events: sophomore Adrian Bautista in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, sophomore Mikah Vail in the 200-meter dash, senior Sawyer Smock in the pole vault, the team of sophomore Isaiah Carroll, Vail, senior Kyle Seiling and senior Max Knapmiller in the 400-meter relay and the team of sophomore AJ Earney, junior Emiliano Porello, Bautista and junior Carter Giemza in the 3,200-meter relay.

Other notable placements for the Red Hawks were Vail in second and Carroll in third in the 100-meter dash, sophomore Sawyer Foust in fourth in the high jump and a trio of fifth-place finishers: sophomore Carson Mayer in the 3,200-meter run, senior Omar Jimenez in the triple jump and freshman Chase Repaal in the discus throw.

Arcadia seniors Ted Teske and Trey Lyga helped set the pace for the Raiders by each winning the high jump and discus throw, respectively. Teske was also third in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the 400-meter dash.

The Raiders made hay with four second-place finishes: senior Andy Monroy in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, junior Jerson Sanchez in the 110-meter hurdles and sophomore David Escalara in the 300-meter hurdles.

Junior Matthew Badillo placed third in the 800-meter run and both Sanchez and junior Alec Conrad took fourth in the 200-meter dash and the 3,200-meter run, respectively.

Independence/Gilmanton senior Sam Marsolek tied for fourth in the pole vault and the Indees were 10th in the boys’ team standings.

West Salem also came out on top in the girls’ team standings, with G-E-T in fifth, Independence/Gilmanton in seventh and Arcadia in 10th.

The Red Hawks were led by freshman Charlee McCutchen in second in the triple jump, freshman Rylynn Simmons in third and sophomore Josie Rupple in fourth in the shot put, junior Aubrynn Rotering in a tie for fourth in the pole vault, and freshman Jayden Thill in fourth and sophomore Claire Breidenbach in fifth in the 200-meter dash.

Independence/Gilmanton had a win in the relays, with the team of sophomore Anna Kent, sophomore Sophia Kampa, freshman Allie Sylla and junior Taylor Sylla crossing the finish line first in the 3,200-meter relay.

In individual events, the Indees were guided by senior Kia Back in second in the 1,600-meter run, Taylor Sylla in second in the 3,200-meter run, sophomore Nora Schank in a tie for third in the high jump and Kampa in fourth in the 800-meter run

Arcadia sophomore Abbi Chambers finished in fourth in the long jump to lead the way for the Raiders.
