G-E-T boys team takes down Arcadia, falls to West Salem

An explosive second half was key for the G-E-T boys basketball team in a matchup with county rival Arcadia last Thursday.

The Red Hawks dominated after halftime, outscoring the visiting Raiders 48-20 to turn a six-point halftime lead into a 75-41 win. A Friday loss to Coulee Conference leader West Salem ended G-E-T’s week.

A busy stretch awaits the Red Hawks (4-5 this season, 1-1 Coulee Conference) this week with the team set to host Black River Falls on Tuesday as well as Luther on Thursday. They will visit the La Crosse Center on Saturday for the Midwest Players Classic tournament.

One week after G-E-T coach Jared McCutchen said Braden Anibas was “coming into his own” for the Red Hawks, Anibas kept his strong stretch going for G-E-T.

The junior knocked down seven three-pointers to finish with a game-high 27 points.

Arcadia trailed 27-21 at halftime on Thursday, but their offense was hard to find in the second half. Only four players scored for the visitors, while 11 different players contributed for G-E-T.

Arcadia (3-4, 0-3) got a 17-point showing from Maverick Drazkowski, and Kaiden Rotering added nine.

Cody Schmitz added 20 points for the hosts.
