G-E-T boys team wins Walek Invitational, Arcadia second
The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau boys track team had eight top-two finishes in the final tune-up before postseason competition began as it won the Walek Invitational in Whitehall on Thursday.
The Red Hawks scored 144 points, finishing well ahead of second-place Arcadia (74). Blair-Taylor was eighth, Whitehall finished 13th and Independence/Gilmanton was 15th.
Brady Seiling had a hand in two first-place finishes for G-E-T, winning the long jump and running on the 400 relay with Kyle Seiling, Charlie Mattison and Max Knapmiller. The Red Hawks also won gold in the 400 as Elijah Sorenson topped the field and Carter Repaal took the top spot in the shot put.
The Arcadia boys team won all three relays it entered, the 800, 1600 and 3200. Landan Bremer, Ted Teske and Joel Fernando ran on both the 800 and 1600 teams with Lex Santos running on the 800 and Nestor Badillo joining the other three on the 1600 team. The 300 tea was won by Badillo, Peyton Nelson, Andy Monroy and Cole Lockington.
Trey Lyga won the discus for Arcadia.
While Arcadia won those three relays, Blair-Taylor took second in all three. Hunter Wagner ran on the 400, 800 and 3200 relay teams, he was joined by Connor Kruce, Riley McAdams and DaVonne Turner on the 400 and 800 teams and Ryan Flynn, Delorean Peterson and Kristoffer Sandal on the 3200 team.
Whitehall was led by Caydan Johnston, who took third in the triple jump, I/G had fourth-place finishes from Ben Pyka in the long jump and 400 relay, running with Sam Marsolek, Max Marsolek and Mason Gierok.
While only one area girls team cracked the top five in the team standings, the meet wasn’t without a notable performance.
Arcadia’s Casidi Pehler won the pole vault, finishing four feet higher than any other competitor. Her highest vault this season of 12 feet, three inches is the second-highest of any high school girl in the state, regardless of division. Last week was the second time she has reached 12 feet, the only girl in Division Two to do so this season. Pehler also won the discus.
The G-E-T girls had the top girls team finish, taking fourth overall. Their 400 relay team of Alayna Stendahl, Jordan Stanislowski, Libby Truax and Kaylee Haug took first.
Paige Kelly won the 100 for the B-T girls team. Whitehall was led by Avvia Herman’s second-place finish in the 300 hurdles and I/G’s top finish came from Callie Zastrow, who was fourth in the shot put.
