G-E-T girls eighth, boys ninth at Winona meet
The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Red Hawks took a trip to the Land of 10,000 Lakes on Saturday to compete in a state border cross-country battle at St. Mary’s University.
The Red Hawks ran the annual Jim Flim Invitational, an event that saw the Red Hawk girls run to eighth place and the boys finish ninth.
Winona won the boys race on Saturday at its home course. Senior Leo Lohnes won the event in 16 minutes, 47.7 seconds, the fastest 5,000-meter time of any runner on Saturday. Winona had the three fastest times in the boys race and saw five runners finish in the top 17.
Sophomore Adrian Bautista continues to be the fastest G-E-T runner. He led the Red Hawks with a 34th place run of 19:03.3. A cluster of G-E-T runners stuck together for much of the race in the middle of the pack of runners—Sawyer Smock finished 60th ahead of teammate AJ Earney in 61st, and Carson Mayer was not far behind in 64th.
Emiliano Porello finished 73rd for G-E-T, and Cavin Spitzmacher took 78th.
Sophia Comfere of Rochester Century was the fastest female runner on Saturday, taking the crown in 20:29.6. Faribault catapulted to first place as a team behind four top-10 finishes and seven top-30 finishes.
For G-E-T, senior Jasmine Tarjeson was the top performer on Saturday. Tarjeson finished 39th for the Red Hawks, which ran in a tight group in both races—freshman Ruby Johnson was the team’s second-fastest runner to place 43rd, and Isabella Tibbitts took 47th just ahead of Reyna Garcia in 48th.
Anya Wolfe finished 57th for the Red Hawks, which also saw Ellie Cox place 64th.
The Red Hawks were scheduled to join Arcadia at Rivers Edge Golf Course in Marshfield this Friday for a night invitational at 7 p.m.
