G-E-T legion softball splits with Lancers

For a second straight outing, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau American Legion softball team settled for a split in a doubleheader.

G-E-T Post 354 (2-3) blanked the La Crescent/Hokah Lancers in the opening tilt of their doubleheader last Wednesday in Ettrick but took a loss in the nightcap. G-E-T ends June with a Wednesday road doubleheader in Black River Falls, then hosts La Crosse Central for a doubleheader next Wednesday ahead of Fourth of July weekend.

Three runs in the first two innings turned out to be all the run support Samantha Stanton needed to win the opener against the Lancers last week.

Stanton allowed just three hits and struck out five in five shutout innings in that victory against La Crescent/Hokah. Alexis Ouellette got the scoring started for Post 354 with an RBI double in the bottom of the first, followed by Eden Linberg’s RBI single that same inning.

Ruby Johnson drove home an insurance run with an RBI single in the second inning.

The Lancers dished out a bit of revenge to earn a doubleheader split, winning by five runs thanks in large part to a four-run rally in the bottom of the third.

Taryn Leighty gave Post 354 an early advantage with an RBI double in the top of the first. La Crescent/Hokah answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, then tallied the four additional runs in the fourth to pull away.

Ouellette ended the game 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and a run scored for G-E-T.
