G-E-T net team closes with two losses

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau volleyball team was close to its first Coulee Conference win of the season, but Black River Falls won the fourth and fifth sets to hand the Red Hawks another loss.

G-E-T followed that loss on Tuesday with another, to Onalaska Luther, on Thursday as the team finished conference competition 0-12.

The Red Hawks turned the page to the postseason on Tuesday as 12th-seeded G-E-T took a 4-28 overall record into its Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regional match at (5) Durand-Arkansaw. The winner of that match will play at (4) Colby on Thursday.

The Red Hawks had a 2-1 lead, but couldn’t finish the match.

G-E-T won a close first set then took the third by four points to put itself one win away from taking the match. But G-E-T’s offense struggled in the fourth and fifth sets as the team scored a combined 20 points, losing 25-10 and 15-10.

Statistics for G-E-T were not reported to the Times.

The Red Hawks stayed alive by winning the third set, but Luther dominated the fourth.

The Knights won the first two sets before the Red Hawks pulled off a 25-22 win in the third. G-E-T managed just nine points in the fourth as Luther cruised to the 3-1 win.

Amara Brantner had 10 kills and seven digs for G-E-T. Audrey Swenson added six kills and Caroline Mack finished with five. Amelia Walz had a team-high 10 set assists, Laela Schmitt added seven. 

Mack and Taryn Lieghty had two aces.
