G-E-T players earn top CC hoops honors

Players from Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau earned the Coulee Conference’s top honors in boys and girls basketball. 

Sophomore Cody Schmitz and senior Lindsey Lettner were both named the CC Athletes of the Year in their respective sport.

Schmitz honor came just before he earned all-state honors (see story elsewhere in Sports) as he led the conference in scoring, averaging 30.2 points per game. He was one of two sophomores on the first-team, joined by Evan Anderson of Black River Falls as G-E-T and BRF tied for third in the conference. 

Lettner was second in the conference with an average of 18 points per game. Her team went 8-4, finishing behind Onalaska Luther (10-2) and West Salem (11-1). She was the only G-E-T girls basketball player to earn all-conference honors.

Breah Golden joined Lettner on the All-CC first team, along with Ella Jordan and Anna McKonkey, both of West Salem and Luther players Rachel Koenig and Hannah Matzke. Golden led the conference, averaging 18.7 points per game.

The second team was made up of Taneea Henderson and Megan Johnson, both of West Salem, Makayla Nortman of BRF and Brianna Zenke of Luther. 

Arcadia’s Casidi Pehler earned honorable mention along with Jessica Anderson, Viroqua; Jen Norman, West Salem; Aubrey Johnson, Hanna Nelson and Jayda Berg of Westby.

Also earning first-team honors for the boys were Carson Koepnick and Peter Lattos of West Salem and Isaiah Schwichtenberg of Luther. None of the first-team members are seniors.

Bret McKonkey and CJ McKonkey of West Salem were second team along with Trey Cowly of BRF and Kodi Miller and Gavin Proudfoot of Luther.

Arcadia seniors Trev Bjorge and Kaden Updike were both honorable mention, along with Will Mack of G-E-T. Hudson Lipski and Rhett Stenslien of Westby were also honorable mention as was Logan Bahr and Gabe Huelskamp of Luther and Jack Hehli of West Salem. 

Westby’s Dylan Nottestad was named the CC Athlete of the Year in wrestling, while 12 G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro wrestlers were honored.

First team picks were Jackson Blaken (126 pounds), Tanner Andersen (132), Carson Koss (1450), Justice Vaaler (195) and Braydon Lockington (220). Alex Wieczorek (170) was picked for the second team. 

G/M wrestlers earning honorable mention were Tyden Jones (106), Terek Fry (113), Scott Johnson (120), David Hile (138), Ben Peterson (160) and Mitch Berg (182).

Arcadia’s Hunter Fitzpatrick (132), Cruz Patzner (152), Miguel Sepulveda (195) and Eric Bustos (285) all earned honorable mention.

West Salem/Bangor won the conference.

Trist Thill earned second-team All-CC honors for the G-E-T/Mel-Min-Cochrane-Fountain City (GMC) gymnastics team while Paris Lambert and Abby Miller were honorable mention.

Isabell Korn of Viroqua was the CC gymnast of the year. She was joined by teammate Morgan Siekart and Tiliya Michlig of the West Salem co-op on the first team.  The West Salem co-op won the conference.
