The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Post 354 19u American Legion baseball team had mixed results at a recent weekend tournament, splitting their four games played over the course of three days.

G-E-T was one of five teams taking part in a round robin tournament hosted by Black River Falls last weekend. Appleton Post 38 won the tournament with a 4-0 record, Prairie du Chien was second at 3-1, G-E-T took third at 2-2, host BRF came in fourth at 1-3 and Elk Mound finished in fifth at 0-4.

Sam De Jager was named G-E-T’s team MVP for the tournament.

Prior to that tournament, Post 354 had lost a road game to Winona earlier in the week.

G-E-T’s upcoming slate includes hosting Holmen for a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m., hosting La Crosse Post 52 on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. and playing at Bangor next Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Winona 5 G-E-T 1

A few scattered hits was all Post 354 could produce on offense in a loss last Tuesday in Winona.

Ben Hansen came up with a two-out RBI single for G-E-T in the top of the third to drive in the team’s only run in the loss. Oliver Marley and Oliver Remus were responsible for the other hits.

Appleton 7 G-E-T 3

Appleton Post 38 got the better of G-E-T in their meeting on the opening evening of the Black River Falls tournament last Friday.

Nathan Holthaus had an RBI single in the top of the third, while the other two Post 354 runs were scored on a double play and an error. Sam De Jager led the way for his team by going 2 for 2 with a run scored.

G-E-T 2 BRF 1

A run scored in the top of the seventh got Post 354 over the hump in a win over host BRF in tournament play last Saturday.

A Wyatt Oines RBI single briefly gave G-E-T the 1-0 lead in the top of the second, only for Black River Falls to knot things up in the bottom half of the inning. No one else scored until the top of the seventh, when G-E-T loaded the bases with one out and De Jager scored on an error for the go-ahead run.

De Jager finished 3 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Caiden Brady got the win on the mound, going seven innings in which he allowed one unearned run on two hits, a walk and a hit by pitch while striking out nine.

PDC 8 G-E-T 4

An extra-inning affair went the way of the Prairie du Chien Post 68 Grasshoppers in G-E-T’s second game played on Saturday of last weekend’s Black River Falls tournament.

All of Post 354’s runs came in a four-run rally in the bottom of the fourth, which included Marley getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and a De Jager RBI single. After the Grasshoppers scored four runs in the top of the eighth, G-E-T managed to load the bases with two outs in the bottom half of the inning but could not push any runs across.

Mitch Thell went 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI.

G-E-T 20 Elk Mound 1

Post 354 ended this past weekend’s tournament in Black River Falls on a high note, blowing past Elk Mound last Sunday.

G-E-T only led 1-0 through three innings before breaking the floodgates open with eight runs in the fourth inning and 11 more in the fifth.

Calvin Davis, Tucker McDonah, De Jager, Hansen and Holthaus each posted a pair of hits in the lopsided victory. Hansen and De Jager helped lead the charge with four and three RBIs, respectively.
