G-E-T sweeps Blair-Taylor track and field invite

Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau swept both the boys and girls team titles at the 13-team Lien/Anderson track and field invitational last Tuesday at Blair-Taylor High School.

The Red Hawks had a first place finish out of their 3200-meter relay team for the men as well as a win from senior Carter Gold in the 1600-meter run by two seconds. Athletes to take second place included the 1600 meter relay team and Carter Repaal throwing the shot put.

Repaal also finished third in both the triple jump and discus events. He was joined by teammates Elijah Sorenson (200 meter dash) and the 800 meter relay team with top three finishes.

The G-E-T boys scored 102.5 points as a team, just ahead of Augusta (93) and Eau Claire Regis (85) for first place. Whitehall finished fourth as a team (65) thanks to a clump of top three finishes–Jonathan Thorn finished second in the 800 meter run, beaten by less than two seconds for first. Junior Colton Pank placed third in the high jump as well as second in the triple jump.

Top three finishes for Whitehall were rounded out by Ben Mohan with a second-place leap in the high jump and Kevin Carroll with a runner up finish in the 3200 meter run.

Blair-Taylor took sixth with 61.5 points, followed by Independence/Gilmanton with 59 points, good for seventh place.

Blair-Taylor’s lone male winner was senior Caden Kruse, who finished with the best leap in the high jump. The team was helped by a pair of third place finishes, including the 400-meter relay team and sophomore Riley McAdams in the 400-meter dash.

Ben Pyka won the long jump competition on Tuesday, and the Independence junior also took third place in the 100-meter dash finals. He was joined by teammates Michael Onstad (1600 meter, third) and Alexander Baumgarten (pole vault, second) as top three finishers.

The Red Hawks swept the meet with a win on the girls’ side on Tuesday.

Loyal finished 23 points behind G-E-T to take second with 125 points, followed by Durand in third place with 76. Blair-Taylor ran to a fourth place score of 65.25, and Independence/Gilmanton (eighth, 29.25) and Whitehall (10th, 27) also competed.

Quinn Wenthe won both the 100 and 300-meter hurdle races for G-E-T and was joined in the winners’ circle by teammates senior Tauna Janssen (800) and junior Jordan Stanislowski (triple jump).

Six different events saw the Red Hawks take second place, including a pair of relays. Aleah Hunter took third in the mile run, as did Kylie Schmitz in discus along with the team’s 800-meter relay.

The Wildcats got a pair of runner-up finishes from sophomore Paige Kelly, who was narrowly beaten in the 100-meter dash and was beaten by only Wenthe in the 300-meter hurdle race.

Sophomore Sara Steffenson had a pair of top three finishes for the hosts, taking third in the 200-meter dash as well as second place in the long jump. Senior teammate Lou Castrique finished third in the long jump, too.

Whitehall got a good showing in the triple jump event, as junior Avery Sonsalla (second) and sophomore Alexis Correa (third) were beaten only by Stanislowski. Mia Sygulla also had a top three finish, running to third place in the 100-meter hurdle race.

I/G got its lone top three finish from freshman Kia Back in the 800-meter run. Back finished behind G-E-T runners Janssen and Avali Bratberg.
