The latest Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau softball season got underway with a doubleheader late last week, as the Red Hawks swept Black River Falls in non-conference action. The following evening, they were unable to keep pace with Prescott and took their first loss of the year.
A pair of tests early this week against Onalaska Luther and Mauston will be followed by the Red Hawks (2-1) hosting Luther on Thursday, Cochrane-Fountain City on Friday and Viroqua/Youth Initiative on Monday. First pitch for all three upcoming games is set for 5 p.m.

A fifth-inning onslaught of runs helped turn a slight G-E-T lead into a mercy-rule win against Black River Falls (1-6) in the first game of last Thursday’s doubleheader.
The Red Hawks sat ahead 6-3 going into the bottom of the fifth when they unloaded for a seven-run rally that featured RBI singles by Amara Brantner, Halene De Jager and Caroline Mack along with a two-run double by Alexis Ouellette to finish off the game.
Kinley Anderson, Tori Thoma, Brantner and Mack each had two hits apiece for G-E-T in the victory. Samantha Stanton earned the win in the circle, surrendering three runs (two earned) and striking out five in five innings of work.

After winning their first game via the mercy rule in five innings, The Red Hawks repeated the feat with a 12-run victory against the Tigers.
G-E-T broke the game open in the top of the second with a nine-run outburst that included RBI singles by De Jager, Anderson and Mack, a three-run home run by Ouellette and a solo home run courtesy of Kennedy Scow.
De Jager, Anderson, Mack and Scow each recorded a pair of hits in the lopsided win. In addition to the two homers, Lorissa Thompson tripled and Mack doubled. De Jager allowed one run in four innings of work in the circle and Scow pitched an inning in relief.

Though the Red Hawks were on the winning end of a pair of mercy-rule games against Black River Falls, they endured a role reversal in a loss to Prescott (1-0) Friday in Galesville.
G-E-T was only down 5-2 going into the fifth when the Cardinals poured on eight runs. The Red Hawks got one back in the bottom half of the inning, but a play at the plate ended their hopes of extending the game to the sixth.
Ouellette smacked a couple doubles and Anderson singled twice for the Red Hawks. De Jager suffered the loss as the starting pitcher with Stanton seeing some work in relief.
