G-E-T sweeps Tigers to complete Coulee play

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau softball team locked up a winning conference record and clinched themselves sole possession of third place in the final Coulee standings with a sweep of Black River Falls last week.
The Red Hawks (12-5, 8-4 Coulee) have a final tuneup before the postseason when they play at Onalaska on Thursday at 5 p.m. In the Division Three playoffs, they are a No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 seed Wautoma in the regional semifinals next Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Two runs scored in each of the last two innings allowed the Red Hawks to rip away a win from the Tigers last Monday in Black River Falls.
Down 3-1 in the top of the sixth, Lorissa Thompson tied the game for G-E-T with her two-run single. The Red Hawks then jumped ahead in the seventh thanks to a Claire Baures RBI single and Joshlyn Lunsford scoring on a fielder’s choice.
Tori Thoma was 2 for 3 with a run scored while Baures finished 2 for 2 with a walk, an RBI and a run. Sam Stanton picked up the win, allowing three runs (only one earned) and striking out four in seven innings pitched.
G-E-T 6 BRF 4
After letting a lead slip away, G-E-T regrouped to finish off their sweep of Black River Falls (3-15, 2-8) in their second of two meetings last Thursday in Galesville.
The Red Hawks built up a 4-0 lead fueled by an Alexis Ouellette sac fly in bottom of the first followed by a trio of RBI singles in the third courtesy of Ruby Johnson, Thoma and Ouellette.
Though the Tigers rallied back to knot the score at 4-4, G-E-T still pulled out the win by scoring on Johnson’s sacrifice bunt that brought in Lunsford in the fifth and Sami Filla scoring on a passed ball in the sixth.
Johnson, Thoma and Baures all singled twice in the win.
