G-E-T wins one event in Schmidt’s return

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau golf team won one of three events last week among Coulee Conference teams, thanks in part to an accomplished player returning from injury.

Sawyer Schmidt, the 2019 Coulee Conference Medalist, made his season debut after recovering from an injury sustained during spring football. His score finishing three strokes behind the medalist on Saturday led G-E-T to the top team score at Drugan’s Castle Mound. Both the Red Hawks and Arcadia Raiders were in the top three of each event last week, a schedule that also included events at Coulee Golf Bowl and Ettrick Golf Club.

Entering Wednesday’s conference tournament at Trempealeau Mountain, the Raiders trail Black River Falls by nine points in the conference standings. Arcadia would need to win the tournament outright, while having BRF finish fourth or worse to overtake the current 79-70 point differential. G-E-T is currently in third in the conference with 61 points, followed by West Salem’s 48, Onalaska Luther’s 38 and Westby-Viroqua’s 28 points.
