Gallup third, GMC fifth at West Salem gymnastics invite
A third-place finish from Taylor Gallup in the all-around competition at a gymnastics invitational in West Salem last Saturday led the G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro/C-FC co-op.
The GMC team finished fifth on a day the host Panthers took the top team spot.
Gallup’s all-around score of 34.4 was beaten by only two other gymnasts on Saturday—McKenna Breunig of Sauk Prairie had a 35.025, and West Salem/Bangor’s Morgan Siekert was the best individual at 36.4.
Gallup earned her highest score in floor routine, where her 9.2 was good for fifth individually. She finished third in beam (8.7), also finishing in the top cluster of scores on vault (8.15) and bars (8.35).
West Salem won the event behind Siekert, who had the best individual day in bars (9.2) and floor (9.45) while taking second in beam and vault.
West Salem scored a 139.175, and was followed by a 132 from Sauk Prairie and a 130.425 from La Crosse. Baraboo (130.05) and GMC (127.775) rounded out the top five, followed by Reedsburg (123.025) and Tomah (113.35).
Part of GMC’s top five finish came from a cluster of individual scores to close the top 15 places.
Amanda Pierson finished 13th in the all-around with a 31.4 and was followed by teammates Tori Thoma (31.25) and Abbi Bronsteatter (30.625).
The co-op will compete again this Saturday at an invitational meet in Tomah.
