G/M falls to Holmen

In a rematch of one of their more competitive bouts from last season, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro wrestling team fell handily to Holmen last Tuesday.

Absent some of the graduated seniors that gave the Titans the 34-31 win last year, G/M fell behind early last week and could not close the gap.

The loss drops them to 1-1 on the season. After a scheduled road match in Cadott earlier this week on Tuesday, the next scheduled affair for the Titans was a quad at Stratford on Thursday.

G/M dropped eight classes, which included three pins to open the night on Tuesday.

Parker Kratochvill (132) got the evening started for Holmen with a 16-1 tech fall victory, which Preston Kratochvill and Andrew Weiss (145) followed with consecutive pins to push the lead to 17-0. Branson Beers (152) then took a 14-3 win for Holmen, followed by a pin by Kyle Gerold (160), 7-1 win for Braden Lachecki (170), 13-8 win for Justice Vaaler (182) and a 13-2 win for Carter Vetsch (195) as the Viking lead swelled to 37-0.

Trevor Daffinson (220) got the Titans on the board with a pin of Carson Weber, which Justin Gappa (285) then followed with a pin of his own over Tucker Gegenfurtner.

Holmen answered with consecutive pins of their own, as Cowan Lambert (106) and Jared Rotering (113) each won by submission. The night of varsity bouts would end with a run of six-straight pins, as G/M’s Carson Koss (120) bested Dom Ammerman and fellow Titan Tanner Andersen (126) took the win over Sam Smith.
