GMC gymnasts earn CC championship

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro/Cochrane-Fountain City gymnastics co-op overcame their Coulee Conference cohorts to earn a conference title in front of a G-E-T home crowd on Friday.

GMC’s team score of 134.15 was led by Coulee Gymnast of the Year Abby Miller, who led all-around performers to help her team best West Salem by less than a quarter of a point. The Panthers tallied 133.95 points for second place, followed by Viroqua with 118.875, Arcadia with 115.075 and Westby with 97.35.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Two Sectional will be held in River Falls on Saturday. The top two teams from each sectional will advance to state, as well as the top five all-around individuals.

CC Championship - Miller’s 35.475 all-around led the meet, as she tallied leading scores with her 9.35 on the floor and 8.95 on vault. She finished second on the beam with an 8.85, and fourth overall on the bars with an 8.35.

Finishing fifth overall behind a trio of West Salem competitors was Paris Lambert of GMC, who tallied a 33.075. Her score was led by an 8.4 on the bars, and an 8.175 on beam. Other highlights for GMC included Sophie White’s 9.05 on the beam, 8.675 on the floor and 8.1 on bars, as well as Ellayna Christopherson’s 8.05 on the vault. 

Additional individual scores for GMC and Arcadia were not made available by press time.
