GMC, Miller second at Mt. Horeb gymnastics invite

A second place finish in the all-around from senior Abby Miller helped the G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro/C-FC (GMC) gymnastics team to a second place team finish at a Saturday invitational in Mt. Horeb.

The team will hope to keep the top finishes coming when they continue competition at another invitational meet in Holmen this Saturday.

Mount Horeb won their home event with a team score of 137.725 ahead of GMC at 131.475. Viroqua/Cashton took third at 127.575, followed by Platteville/Belmont (126.075) in fourth, Prairie du Chien/Fennimore (120.225) in fifth, Dodgeville/Iowa-Grant (120) in sixth and Jefferson/Cambridge (117.1) in seventh.

Miller scored a 35.85 in the all-around competition behind only Viroqua/Cashton’s Morgan Siekert, who finished with 36.05.

Miller’s 8.7 on the uneven bars was the highest score of any gymnast on Saturday. She scored a 9.325 on floor to place second (Siekert 9.4), 9.175 on balance beam (fourth) and 8.65 on vault (fifth).

Senior Trista Thill also finished inside the top 10 for GMC, taking eighth in the all-around with a 33.5. Thill finished seventh in floor with an 8.9 and also placed seventh on balance beam with an 8.8. She rounded out her score with 12th place finishes in vault (7.95) and bars (7.825).

Madilyn Fisher of Prairie du Chien/Fennimore took the top spot in vault with a 9.1, and Mount Horeb’s Athena Ouradnik won the balance beam with a 9.275.

Freshmen Abbi Bronsteatter and Tori Thoma finished 13th and 14th, respectively, in the all-around for GMC.

Bronsteatter scored a 30.575 (8.7 floor, 7.925 beam, 7.45 vault and 6.5 bars), while Thoma finished with a 30.475 (8.05 floor, 7.375 beam, 7.7 vault and 7.35 bars).

Freshman Amanda Pierson did not compete in vault but scored an 8.025 in floor to go with a 7.5 in bars and a 7.45 in bars.
