GMC third, Arcadia fifth at CC gymnastics championship

West Salem was crowned the 2023 conference champions at Friday’s Coulee Conference gymnastics championship at Westby High School.

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro/Cochrane-Fountain City co-op came in third place at the event with a 134.275, with Viroqua finishing in second place at 136.025.

Arcadia (63.3) finished fifth behind fourth-place Westby (107.075). West Salem was the only team to eclipse the 140-point mark with their event-best 141.6.

Both GMC and Arcadia will begin the postseason with the sectional meet this Saturday at West Salem High School.

GMC Senior Abby Miller again led all county gymnasts with a 36.425, good for a fourth place finish in the all-around competition.

Isabell Korn of Viroqua had the best score of all competing gymnasts (36.775) thanks to top scores on vault (9.05) and bars (9.1).

Miller’s high score was on floor, where her 9.5 was the fourth highest. Miller took the second-best finish on both vault (9.025) and beam (9.15) and also scored an 8.75 on bars.

Trista Thill finished seventh on Friday with a 34.175 (8.975 floor, 8.8 beam, 8.25 bars, 8.15 vault) for GMC, which also got a ninth place finish from Amanda Pierson at 32.25.

Hannah Gierok’s 32.475 led the way for Arcadia and was enough for eighth place. Gierok scored an 8.275 on floor to pair with 8.1 on both beam and vault. She also got an 8.0 on bars.

Tori Thoma finished 11th for GMC with a 31.05 and had her best showing on vault (8.2), and teammate Abbi Bronsteatter rounded out GMC’s scores with a 30.575.

Arcadia senior Nora Bergerson’s 30.825 was good for 12th and included an 8.4 on floor,7.95 on vault, 7.275 on bars and a 7.2 on beam.
