I/G’s Sylla third at Durand XC meet

While the area teams didn’t have the depth to finish near the top in the meet, one area runner stood out at the Durand-Arkansaw Invitational at Rolling Greens Golf Course on Thursday.

Independence/Gilmanton sophomore Taylor Sylla finished behind only Lili Klinkhamer of St. Croix Central and Claire Becker of Melrose-Mindoro out of 127 runners in the meet. Sylla’s time of 21:11.35 was about 14 seconds slower than Becker and 38 seconds behind Klinkhamer, a freshman whose team won the competition.

The Indee girls had the best team finish amongst area schools, taking ninth. Gracie Rombalski finished 26th and Sophia Kampa was 34th for the Indees. Angie Martinez was the team’s fourth runner, taking 91st and Hannah Gierok was 123rd.

I/G had just one boy competing in the meet as Charlie Baize finished 65th.

Blair-Taylor had three girls competing as Kelsey Lien took 58th, Emmalee Johnson, 89th and Ella Halverson, 100th.

The B-T boys finished 14th in the team standings, led by Jacob Olson, who finished 35th. Thomas Brandt took 68th for the Wildcats followed by Anthony Oldendorf, 101st; Riley Gunderson, 115th; Armoni Samples, 124th; Wyatt Schrock, 129th and Billy Miller, 137th.
