I/G boys fourth at Augusta, Sylla wins in Wausau

The Independence/Gilmanton cross country teams had a strong week as the boys team finished fourth at a meet hosted by Augusta on Tuesday, and junior Allie Sylla was the top Division Three runner in the Smiley Invitational in Wausau on Saturday.

The Arcadia teams also competed in Tuesday’s competition, with its boys team taking fifth and its girls team finishing third. The I/G girls only had one runner compete on Tuesday.

Jaydan Harz finished 10th overall for the I/G boys in Augusta with a time of 20:17. The Indees scored 101 team points, behind Sparta (98), Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran (47) and Wabasha-Kellogg (33), and just ahead of Arcadia’s 105.

Stian Howard was second on I/G and 17th overall with a time of 21:38, followed by Maddox Pronschinske (23rd, 22:47), James Wolfe (31st, 24:15), Carson Klimek (32nd, 24:18), Jordan Boncimino (34th, 24:20), and Jurgen Fankhauser (48th, 28:56).

Arcadia’s Nathan Badillo was third overall with a time of 18:23. Reese Kujak (20th, 21:54) was Arcadia’s second runner followed by Jonathan Aguilar (27th, 23:15), Brian Lorenzo (30th, 24:01), Brenden Weaver (44th, 28:11), and Saul Silva (50th, 32:26).

The girls’ race had just 39 runners and three teams.

Shaylah Rodriguez finished 12th overall for the Arcadia girls with a time of 26:32. Ashley Sandoval was 17th for Arcadia with a time of 27:23, followed by Ellie Tempski (19th, 29:09), Malanie Moreno (21st, 29:30), Shannon Cruz Sandova (22nd, 29:41), Marleni Blas (26th, 31:31), and Lia Sandoval (28th, 32:21).

Shawnna Whitewater was the only I/G girl competing, finishing 30th with a time of 34:36.

Smiley Invite

With a time of 19:59, Sylla finished about two seconds better than Evelyn Bablitch of Rosholt to take the lead among all Division Three runners in the competition. 

The meet included 49 schools with the individual and team standings separated into three divisions. The I/G girls had three runners crack the top 20 as they finished fourth overall with 127 points. 

 Anna Kent was second on I/G and 10th overall with a time of 21:34, while Sophia Kampa finished 16th with a time of 22:11. Paige Pronschinske (47th, 24:14) and Whitewater (73rd, 31:37) were the team’s other two runners. 

Sheboygan Area Lutheran was the top Division Three school, finishing with 100 points. 

The I/G boys finished ninth with 221 points.

Howard led the team (26th, 19:20), finishing ahead of Harz (27th, 19:23) by three seconds. Pronschinske (66th, 22:38.2) and Wolfe (67th, 22:38.6) were neck and neck, followed by Klimek (72nd, 22:58), Boncimino (81st, 25:19) and Darion Gibbs (86th, 26:17).
