I/G girls crack top 10 at Norther Badger Classic
With one first-place finish and a few more inside the top five, the Independence/Gilmanton girls track and field team finished eighth at the Northern Badger Classic indoor track meet at University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday.
Junior Taylor Sylla finished about 45 seconds ahead of the rest of the field in the 3200 run to give I/G 10 of its 26.5 team points in the meet.
Distance events were a strength for the Indees as Anna Kent finished third in the 1600 and Sophia Kampa was fifth in the 800. Nora Schank added a fourth-place finish in the high jump.
Freshman Bria Pank accounted for all eight of Whitehall’s points as she took second in the triple jump.
Devin Hutsell was the top-place winner for the Whitehall boys team, taking fourth in the triple jump. The team also got fifth-place finishes in the 400 by Mason Przybylla and the 55 hurdles by Aiden Evans.
The I/G boys team had athletes compete in the meet, but they did not place.
