I/G girls take top spots at B-T meet, fourth at Durand
The Independence/Gilmanton girls cross country team won the meet before the race even began, but still put on a strong showing last Tuesday at the Taylor Rod and Gun Club.
The Indees were the only school competing that had enough runners for a team, but even if the other teams had more runners, they likely would’ve won. The first four finishers all represented I/G as Taylor Sylla took first followed by Allie Sylla, Sophia Kampa and Anna Kent. I/G’s fifth runner, Lia Sandoval, finished 12th.
There were only four schools participating in the race as Alma Center Lincoln had four runners, Blair-Taylor had three and Osseo-Fairchild only brought one.
After the top four I/G runners, the next two were from Blair-Taylor as Jadrean Borreson finished fifth and Kelsey Lien was sixth. Ally Jorgenson finished eighth for the Wildcats.
Area runners took the top spots in the boys race too as B-T’s Alex Sygula was first and I/G’s Theo Gutendorf finished second.
E-S won the team title with 36 points, five better than B-T while O-F scored 50. I/G only had four runners and AC Lincoln had three.
Landen Kidd was B-T’s second runner, taking fifth overall followed by Robbie Brandt in eighth, Caiden Lien in 13th and Wyatt Schrock in 24th.
Owen Gierok finished 15th for the Indees, one spot better than teammate Jaydan Harz and Maddox Pronschinske was 20th.

Indee girls fourth at Durand meet
The Independence/Gilmanton girls cross country team had runners finish near the top as it took fourth at the Durand-Arkansaw Invitational in Durand on Thursday.
The Indees had more runners finish inside the top 12 than any of the other teams, but only had five runners competing in the meet.
Taylor Sylla finished second overall, about 37 seconds behind Jaycie Oberle of Boyceville. Boyceville also claimed the team title with 66 points.
Allie Sylla finished sixth for the Indees while Anna Kent was 11th and Sophia Kampa was 12th. No other team had even three other runners finish inside the top 12, but depth hurt the Indees. The next I/G runner to cross the finish line, Lia Sandoval Reyes, was 80th overall.
Whitehall had two runners compete as Lexi Kurth finished 40th and Hailey Koch was 84th.
Two area boys runners cracked the top 15 in the meet.
Whitehall’s Kole Kulig led the Norse and finished 13th overall, while I/G’s Theo Gutendorf took 15th.
Whitehall finished 13th in the team standings. Ashton Hanson was the team’s second runner, finishing 54th overall while Erick Aguilar Peralta took 62nd; Christopher Mann, 82nd; Oliver Hernandez, 93rd; Eli Washkuhn, 97th and Warren Stenulson, 106th.
The Indees and Norse are scheduled to compete at Levis-Trow Mounds on Thursday and will run at Maple Grove Venues next Monday.
