I/G slugs past P/A for DC win

The Independence/Gilmanton softball team scored the first seven runs then pulled away with three in the seventh to take a Dairyland Conference slugfest over Pepin/Alma on Friday.

The teams combined for 32 hits in the game; P/A had 17, but the Indees came out ahead on the scoreboard to pick up the conference win.

The win put I/G at 7-9 on the season before a busy week in which they played at Blair-Taylor on Tuesday, at home against Whitehall on Wednesday at Cochrane-Fountain City on Thursday and will conclude the regular season on Monday against Eleva-Strum.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament series begins next Wednesday, but the brackets had not been released as of press time.

I/G 15 P/A 7

After scoring two runs in the first inning, the Indees took a big lead with five in the second.

An RBI single by Adison Pronschinske put the Indees ahead 3-0 before Emerson Pronschinske doubled one home and Lydia Evans tripled in two more. Evans then scored on a groundout, putting the Indees ahead 7-0.

P/A got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the second, but the Indees got both back in the third as Emerson Pronschinske singled one run home and Evans walked with the bases loaded to score another. Hilari Klopp later doubled to center, scoring three more runs and putting the Indees ahead by 10.

The Indees missed a chance to end the game by the mercy rule. The Eagles scored one run in the fourth then put up four in the fifth, making the score 12-7.

That’s where it stood until the seventh when Klopp tripled two runs in then scored herself on a groundout.

Klopp went three-for-five with five RBIs while Emerson Pronschinske and Avery Pape both had three hits and Evans, Adison Pronschinske and Alexid Dahl-Abramczak had two. Evans had three RBIs, Emerson Pronschinske and Aubrie Pronschinske both had two while Alana Back and Adison Pronschinske both batted in one.

Emerson Pronschinske got the win in the circle, striking out five without allowing a walk.
