I/G softball team loses six of seven

The busiest week of the season proved to be a tough one for the Independence/Gilmanton softball team as they lost six of the seven games they played.

The Indees began the week by losing three Dairyland Conference games, falling to Cochrane-Fountain City 7-1 on Tuesday before being swept by Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran in a doubleheader on Thursday. Their only win of the week was a 20-0 win over Eleva-Strum on Friday. Saturday brought a tournament to Independence, but the host school lost three games.

Entering this week with a 3-8 record, the Indees hosted Whitehall for the conclusion of one game — which I/G led 9-0 in the fourth inning on April 27 before weather suspended the game — and then to play another. The Indees head to Alma Center Lincoln on Thursday before hosting Augusta on Friday and Melrose-Mindoro this coming Monday.

C-FC 7 I/G 1

The Indees managed six hits without a walk while striking out 12 times as they failed to sink the Pirates.

It looked like the Indees were going to be in for a high-scoring game as they had four hits in the first inning, the last of which was an RBI single by Alana Back, but I/G managed just two hits the rest of the game.

It didn’t take long for C-FC to tie the game as Emma Baures led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run. The Pirates scored three more runs in the inning to take control. They added three more in the third as the Indees continued to struggle at the plate.

Emerson Pronschinske and Back both had two hits for the Indees.

Emerson Pronschinske took the loss, pitching a complete game with eight strikeouts, while allowing two walks and eight hits.

ECI 5 I/G 0

The Lancers jumped ahead with four runs in the first as the Indees were silent offensively.

ECI picked up four hits and took advantage of a walk and a hit batter to plate four in the bottom of the first inning. Consecutive two-out doubles in the second inning put them ahead 5-0.

The Indees got two runners on in the third, but couldn’t bring either of them home as they were shut out in the game, which was limited to five innings because it was part of a doubleheader.

I/G had five hits as Hilari Klopp picked up two of them.

Emerson Pronschinske took the loss, allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out one in a complete game effort.

ECI 3 I/G 2

In the second game of the doubleheader the Indees fought back after the Lancers’ fast start, but it wasn’t enough.

ECI put up three runs in the top of the first inning thanks to a three-run home run with runners on first and second.

The Indees came back in the bottom of the third as Lydia Evans doubled with one out and scored on a single by Aubrie Pronschinske. Pronschinske then scored on a groundout by Klopp to bring the Indees within a run.

I/G had two on with one out in the fourth, but consecutive strikeouts ended that threat. They also got a runner on in the fifth, but were unable to bring her home.

Evans took the loss, pitching a complete game with five hits and three walks allowed while she struck out one.

The Indees had six hits with six different players getting one.

I/G 20 E-S 0

After taking a big lead in the top of the first, the Indees broke the game wide open with 11 runs in the third.

I/G had seven hits in the top of the firs tinning including an RBI double by Klopp that brought home their first run and a triple by Back, scoring two more as part of a six-run inning.

Klopp tripled in two in the second before scoring herself on a groundout, making the score 9-0.

The Indees had 12 hits as part of an 11-run third inning. Klopp had two run-scoring hits, a single and a double, and the Indees had 10 more singles as they opened up a 20-0 lead. The mercy rule ended the game after three innings.

The Indees had 22 hits in the game as Klopp went four-for-four with five RBIs. Aubrie Pronschinske was also four-for-four, batting in two runs. Avery Pape had three hits while Evans, Emerson Pronschinske, Amiah Ives, Back and Adison Pronschinske all had two hits. Ives had four RBIs while Pape, Back and Hailey Witte all batted in two.

A-F 11 I/G 2

The Indees had the lead late in the game, but the wheels fell off in the sixth as A-F scored 10 runs to take control.

A-F scored first with a run in the top of the fourth, but the Indees came back with two in the bottom half of the inning. Adison Pronschinske led off with a triple and scored on a single by Evans. Back brought Evans home with a single, putting the Indees ahead 2-1.

That’s where the score stood until the sixth when A-F scored 10 runs with two outs. The first 13 batters all reached for A-F, but the Indees were able to get two outs on the base paths. A combination of walks and hits followed, however, as A-F finished the inning with nine hits and four walks.

The Indees had seven hits as Aubrie Pronschinske and Emerson Pronschinske both had two.

Mondovi 8 I/G 2

For the second straight game, I/G’s opponent pulled away late.

Mondovi led throughout the game after scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Indees stayed in the game with a run in the bottom of the third and trailed 3-1 entering the sixth. Mondovi had six hits — including two doubles — in the sixth as they plated five runs to take an 8-1 lead.

A two-out RBI single by Pape in the bottom of the seventh made the game closer, but the Buffaloes still won comfortably.

The Indees had 11 hits as Pape and Klopp both had three and both had RBIs. Evans had two hits.

Emerson Pronschinske took the loss, striking out nine while allowing 13 hits and one walk in a complete game.

Bangor 5 I/G 3

This time it was I/G who surged late, but they couldn’t overcome a five-run deficit.

The Cardinals took the lead with four runs in the first inning and added another in the fifth.

A solo home run by Aubrie Pronschinske got the Indees on the scoreboard in the sixth.

I/G got within striking distance in the seventh as Back doubled in Ives, making the score 5-2 with the tying run at the plate and no outs for I/G.

The Indees loaded the bases with one out before Evans drew a walk, bringing home a run. Aubrie Pronschinske then singled, but Back was thrown out at home. Adison Pronschinske was then caught stealing home, ending the game.
