I/G wins regional opener, falls to Neillsville

The Independence/Gilmanton volleyball team won one regional match last week, but lost in the semifinal round.
The sixth-seeded Indees swept 11th-seeded Alma Center Lincoln, 25-16, 25-20, 25-18 in Gilmanton last week Tuesday. On Thursday, I/G came out strong, taking the first set, 25-22, in Neillsville. But the Warriors won the next three, 25-16, 25-19, 25-6.
No statistics were reported to the Times before press time.
Neillsville went on to fall to Cochrane-Fountain City in the regional final. The second-seeded Pirates will play first-seeded Loyal in Thursday’s sectional semifinal match.
