Indee baseball team splits two

The Independence/Gilmanton baseball team struggled in a Dairyland Conference game before picking up a nonconference win last week.

The Indees were close against Pepin/Alma on Thursday, but the Eagles exploded late and won 10-1. I/G rebounded with a 7-4 win over Elmwood/Plum City, more information from that game was unavailable before press time.

I/G began this week with a 6-5 overall record, including a 4-4 mark in DC play. The final full week of the regular season will be busy as I/G hosted P/A on Monday before playing Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on the road on Tuesday and at home on Thursday. Then they’ll head to Alma Center Lincoln for a game this Saturday before closing out the regular season at home against Cochrane-Fountain City this coming Monday.

Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament play is set to begin next Thursday.

P/A 10 I/G 1

The game was close until the Eagles scored seven runs in the sixth.

P/A took the lead with three runs in the fourth, but the Indees were in position to come back after an RBI double by Nathan Pyka in the top of the sixth. However, the game got away from I/G in the bottom half of the inning.

The bottom of the sixth began with two errors and a walk. Consecutive doubles plated four runs and the Eagles took advantage of two hit batters and two walks to score three more in the inning.

Brandon Sylla took the loss for I/G despite allowing just two earned runs in five innings. He struck out nine while surrendering one walk and three hits. Sylla was replaced with no outs in the sixth, Chase Back and Pyka finished the game.

The Indees had six hits as Pyka and Sylla each had two. I/G struggled to put the ball in play, striking out 12 times.
