The Independence/Gilmanton baseball team picked up one Dairyland Conference win and had a lead in another before the game was postponed due to rain.

The Indees scored three runs in the third inning of a 3-1 win over Augusta last week Tuesday. They scored three in the first inning as they led Blair-Taylor 3-0 in the third on Friday before rain came and pushed the rest of the game to Wednesday of this week.

I/G began this week tied with Eleva-Strum and Whitehall at the top of the Dairyland Conference with an 8-1 record, they were 8-3 overall as of Monday. Prior to finishing the B-T game on Wednesday, the Indees played at Cochrane-Fountain City on Tuesday of this week. They’re scheduled to host Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Thursday.

Where I/G finishes in the conference could be determined next week as the Indees host Whitehall on Monday and play at E-S on Tuesday.

I/G 3 Augusta 1

The Indees scored three in the third to pick up the conference win.

I/G trailed 1-0 before Hunter Guenther singled in two runs. Brandon Sylla then doubled to bring Guenther home, putting the Indees ahead by the final.

In addition to batting in all of their runs, Guenther and Sylla kept the Beavers in check on the mound.

Guenther got the start, pitching the first 4.2 innings with 11 strikeouts without a walk and two hits allowed. Sylla pitched the final 2.1 striking out and walking two while allowing one hit. Augusta’s only run was unearned.

Guenther had two of I/G’s six hits in the game.
