Indees fall to Hornets

After a fast start, the Independence boys basketball team couldnÕt hold on and beat the Dairyland Conference Large Division leaders on Thursday. The Indees jumped out ahead in the first few minutes and still lead midway through the first half, but the Hornets closed with an 11-4 run and never looked back, winning 55-45. The loss dropped the Indees to 4-9 overall and 3-6 in Dairyland Conference play.

They played at Coulee Christian on Monday of this week and at home against Augusta on Tuesday before welcoming Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Thursday. This coming Monday, the Indees play another non-conference game as they head to Spring Valley before hosting Gilmanton next Thursday.

AC Lincoln 55 HIS 45 - The Indees were able to force turnovers early as they jumped to a 12-6 lead, but the Hornets werenÕt about to go away. ACL climbed back to tie the game at 14 before the Indees came back with a couple of baskets. The Hornets had a strong end to the first half, as they took a 25-20 lead into halftime. The offensive struggles that hurt the Hornets in the first half didnÕt come back in the second half as they maintained control and went on to win by 10. Chris Killian led Independence with 12 points while Creed Brenner scored nine and both Ben Pyka and Tyler Kingsbury finished with eight while Dylan Marsolek and John Roskos scored four. Justin Rowekamp led the Hornets with 15 points.
