Indee girls finish regular season with loss to Beavers

Independence’s defense kept the game close for a half, but they didn’t have enough of-fense to pull through for the win.

The Indees trailed 21-16 at halftime, but pulled within a basket when Amiah Ives con-verted a three-point play two minutes into the second half. Independence’s defense kept Au-gusta off the board for the first three-and-a half minutes of the second half, but free throws put Augusta ahead 23-19.

The Indees were within one at 24-23, but the Beavers scored six straight and 10 of the next 12 points to take a 34-25 lead with about nine minutes remaining.

Independence kept fighting, but they couldn’t get shots to fall. Augusta continued to build its lead, extending it to 18 at one point and won, 49-33.

Adison Pronschinske led the Indees with eight points. The team shot 28 percent from the field, including a two-for-16 mark on three-point attempts.

Independence’s season continued on Tuesday of this week when they opened Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association play as the 12th seed in its bracket playing at fifth-seeded Cochrane-Fountain City. The winner of that game will play the winner of the game between (13) Eleva-Strum and (4) Royall on Friday.
