Indee girls fly past Panthers

If the Independence girls basketball team didn’t score a single point in the second half of its game against Gilmanton last week Tuesday, it still would’ve won by double digits.

The Indees were in complete control from the opening tip as they cruised to a 60-17 Dairyland Conference win. The win put Independence at 4-7 overall and 2-3 in Dairyland Conference play — behind only Alma Center Lincoln (5-0) in the standings.

Independence was set to play at Plum City/Elmwood on Tuesday and Whitehall on Thursday of this week. This coming Tuesday they’re set to host Cochrane-Fountain City.

Four different Independence players had 10 or more points as the team won comfortably.

The Indees shot 33 percent from the field – including misses on all 12 three-point attempts — but they had 75 attempts thanks to 41 rebounds and 27 steals in the game. That helped the Indees get several shots from close to the basket as they took a 28-5 lead into halftime.

Independence let up a bit in the second half, but still had firm control of the game.

The Indees were led in scoring by two freshmen as Kassidi Dejno finished with 12 points and Arabelle Kniseley scored 11. Seniors Amiah Ives and Ahnna Bautch both scored 10 points.

Independence gathered 41 rebounds with five different players collecting at least six. They also had 27 steals as Dejno, Adison Pronschinske and Rhianna Theisen all had six.
