Indee girls struggle offensively in losses

The Independence girls basketball team continued to have a difficult time putting the ball in the basket as they scored a combined 53 points in two losses last week.

The Indees got going in the second half against New Auburn last week Tuesday, but it was too little, too late as they trailed by 11 at halftime and lost by that margin. The team reached a new season-low with 22 points in an 18-point loss to Alma/Pepin on Friday.

The losses put the Indees at 8-15 overall (3-6 in Dairyland Conference play) before they played at Augusta in their final regular season game on Monday.

Independence has a familiar opponent when it opens Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association play next Tuesday as the 12th seeded Indees will play at (5) Cochrane-Fountain City. The winner of that game will play the winner of the game between (13) Eleva-Strum and (4) Royall next Friday. Blair-Taylor is the top-seeded team in the sectional bracket.

The Indees shot about 30 percent from the field as they were one-for-14 on three-point attempts. They were also four-for-10 at the free-throw line.

Independence played without Amiah Ives, one of the team’s top players. Adison Pronschinske and Makiyah Scow both scored nine to lead the team.
