Indee softball team can’t keep up with Lancers

Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran came out swinging and the Independence/Gilmanton softball team couldn’t keep up.

The Indees stuck with the Lancers for three innings, but the team from Eau Claire pulled away as the game went on. They took a 10-run lead in the fifth and went on to win by eight.

The loss dropped I/G to 0-2 on the season as several games have been postponed due to the weather. They were scheduled to play at Plum City on Monday before going to Eleva-Strum on Tuesday.

On Friday, the Indees will head to Alma Center Lincoln for a five-inning doubleheader. This coming Monday, they play at Cochrane-Fountain City then host Melrose-Mindoro on Tuesday, play at Alma/Pepin on Thursday and host Augusta for a twin bill next Friday.

ECI 15 I/G 7

The Indees couldn’t keep the Lancers offense in check.

ECI came out swinging with three hits in the first inning. Those hits, combined with two walks and an error put them ahead 4-0.

An Amiah Ives double brought home a run for the Indees in the bottom of the first, but keeping up with the Lancers would prove to be too much.

ECI scored two more in the second, but Rhianna Theisen got those back for the Indees with a double in the third, making the score 6-3.

The Lancers plated three more runs, thanks to two hits and a walk in the fourth. They went ahead by 10 at 13-3 when they strung together six straight singles with two outs in the fifth.

Adison Pronschisnke and Theisen had consecutive RBI hits in the fifth then two more runs scored on groundouts later in the inning, but the Indees still trailed by six, 13-7.

The Lancers added two more runs in the seventh.

Leah Sylla got the start and took the loss for the Indees allowing 12 hits and three walks while striking out four in six innings. Lydia Evans pitched the seventh with two hits and three walks allowed with one strikeout.

I/G had seven hits in the game, led by Theisen who went two-for-three with three RBIs.
