Indee softball team loses two
The Independence/Gilmanton softball team continued to struggle last week as it lost two more games.
The Indees struggled all around in a 9-0 road loss against Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Thursday. The team had a chance to win with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh against Whitehall, but a strikeout ended the game with a 5-4 loss (see story elsewhere in Sports).
The loss to Whitehall was I/G’s fourth straight after the team began the season 3-0. It looked to break the streak with a game at Blair-Taylor on Tuesday of this week before playing in Augusta on Friday. They’ll host Eleva-Strum this coming Tuesday.
ECIL 9 I/G 0
The Indees struggled at the plate and in the field in the shutout loss.
I/G managed just one hit on the game — a single to lead off the second by Leah Sylla — and had four walks to 10 strikeouts. Defensively, the team committed four errors, leading to five unearned runs.
The Lancers took the lead with two runs in the top of the first, then added two more in the third. They went ahead 5-0 with a run in the fifth before scoring two in each of the final two innings.
Nora Schank took the loss, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out five in six innings. Leah Sylla finished the game, striking out two while allowing one hit and one walk in one inning.
