Indee track teams compete at E-S, C-FC

The Independence/Gilmanton track and field teams found some success last week as the girls team won its Dairyland Conference opener at Cochrane-Fountain City last Thursday.

That was the second meet of the week for the Indees as they competed at Eleva-Strum on Tuesday with a couple of middle-of-the-pack finishes. On Thursday, it was all DC teams at C-FC and the Indee girls took the top spot, while the boys team took fifth.

I/G played host to the Trempealeau County meet on Monday of this week then went back to C-FC for a meet on Tuesday. This coming Tuesday, they’ll compete at Blair-Taylor before the true team meet in Whitehall next Thursday. 

Cardinal Invite

Pole vault led the way for the Independence/Gilmanton track and field teams as the boys finished sixth and the girls were seventh at the Cardinal Invite last week Tuesday.

Max Marsolek won the pole vault for the I/G boys as they scored 31 points, finishing 23 points behind Eleva-Strum. Fall Creek won the boys field with 174 points.

Kevin Halvorson added a fourth-place finish in the same event while Chase Jesse was seventh, giving the team 17 of its points from one event.

The other I/G athlete to crack the top five was Ben Pyka, who was fourth in the long jump. 

The I/G girls got 12 of its 47 points from the pole vault as Alanna Severson finished fourth, Ahnna Buatch was fifth and Breyona Killian took sixth.

Kia Back had the best finish for the I/G girls, taking second in the 1600. Callie Zastrow scored the most points individually as she was third in both the discus and the shot put.

DC meet at C-FC

The I/G girls had the highest scores in both distance races and jumping events.

The Indees scored 61 points in the distance events as Kailey Herbenson won the 3200 and Grace Rombalski took the top spot in the 400. They also got a first-place finish from Alanna Severson in the pole vault and Callie Zastrow won the shot put.

Michael Onstad won both the 800 and 1600 races for the Indee boys and Halvorson won the triple jump.
