Indees fall to Lancers after long layoff

In their first game in 14 days, the Independence girls basketball team ran out of gas.

The Indees were competitive with Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran last Thursday as the teams were tied at 27 in the second half, but the Indees managed just five points the rest of the way.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the game was Independence’s first since Jan. 14 and only their eighth since mid-December. The Indees (5-10, 1-7) are slated to play in Arcadia on Thursday and in Gilmanton on Friday. This coming Tuesday they’ll host Alma/Pepin as their last four regular season games are all at home.

The Lancers responded with a three and another basket to start an 8-0 run that put them ahead 35-27.

Adison Pronschinsk ended the run with a basket for Independence, but ECI’s Riley Naumann scored five straight to put her team ahead by 11 and, essentially, put the game away.

The Indees came out strong, scoring seven of the first nine points in the game, but the trailed 21-19 at halftime.

The Indees shot 31 percent from the field and had 23 turnovers, while ECi shot 39 percent and turned the ball over just seven times.
