Indees pin Onalaska co-op team in dual

The Independence/Gilmanton wrestling team won three of the four matches that were wrestled as they pinned the Onalaska co-op team 54-18 on Thursday.

The Onalaska team — a combination of Onalaska and Onalaska Luther — had to forfeit six matches, but had little success in the ones they did actually compete in as the Indees won easily.

I/G wrestled in the La Crosse Logan tournament on Saturday (see story elsewhere in Sports). On Friday, they’ll wrestle in a tournament at Whitehall.

Mason Gierok (170), Gavin Bragger (182) and Jacobo Medina (285) all recorded pins for the Indees.

Gierok’s pin of Jack Stoen came in 1:14, Bragger stuck Brady Kuhn in 4:39 and Medina topped Carsen Fankhauser in 32 seconds. 

The only other match that was actually wrestled came at 145 pounds where Onalaska Kasey Barth pinned I/G’s Max Marsolek in 1:32. 

Forfeits were received by I/G’s Gracie Rombalski (106), Cora Sonsalla (120), Alex Johnson (126), Gael Leon (132), Gabe Pietrek (138) and Drew Bragger (220).

The Indees had to forfeit the 152- and 160-pound matches and there were double forfeits at 113 and 195 pounds.
