Indees rally past ECI, win two more

It’s often said that basketball is a game of runs and the Independence/Gilmanton girls basketball team had some big runs at crucial times last week.

The Indees scored the last nine points to upend Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran, 48-46, on the road last week Tuesday. On Thursday, I/G scored the first eight points in a 62-53 win over Black River Falls. The team trailed by 10 at halftime on Friday, but scored the first 12 points of the second half in a 50-42 win over Alma Center Lincoln.

I/G has won nine of its last 11 games with its only losses coming to Greenwood (16-6) and Cochrane-Fountain City (20-1). The team took a 16-7 overall mark and 10-2 conference record (behind only 11-0 C-FC in the Dairyland Conference Small Division) into the final week with a home game against Augusta on Tuesday.

I/G earned the third seed in its Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Five bracket and will host (14) Eleva-Strum this coming Tuesday. The winner of that game will play the winner between (11) Hillsboro and (6) Alma Center Lincoln next Friday with the regional final — likely at (2) Royall — set for Saturday.
