Indees roll past Beavers, blasted by Thunder
The Independence/Gilmanton boys basketball team couldn’t be stopped in one game, but couldn’t get stops in another.
The Indees controlled the paint and put up 85 points in a lopsided road win over Augusta last week Monday. On Thursday, however, the team couldn’t slow down Dairyland Conference newcomer Osseo-Fairchild, falling 88-51.
The win over Augusta was I/G’s second in a row as the team sits at 3-3 on the season, after totaling four wins throughout the entire 2023-24 campaign. I/G took on Eleva-Strum in Gilmanton on Tuesday of this week and plays at Alma/Pepin on Friday. They’ll be off until Jan. 2 when the team plays in Cornell.

With Carlos Flores and Nolan Schank controlling the paint, the Indees cruised to another win.
Flores scored 21 points and pulled in 14 rebounds while Schank added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Indeed held a six-point lead at halftime and opened up a double-digit lead early in the second half. The Beavers fought back to get the lead down to single-digits late, but would score just seven points in the final six minutes, while I/G pulled away.
I/G shot about 58 percent from the field, while holding Augusta to 38 percent. In addition to the post presence, the Indees got 20 points — including three three-pointers — from Angel Mendoza and Payton Hovey added 15.

I/G’s winning streak came to an end as the DC’s newest team controlled the game throughout.
