Indees split with B-T, E-S

After falling behind early in one game last week, the Independence girls basketball team took control in the first half to win another last week.

The Indees fell behind one of the top teams in the area and Dairyland Conference, Blair-Taylor, and lost at home, 60-23, last week Tuesday (see story elsewhere in Sports). On Friday, they hit the road and took an early lead against Eleva-Strum before winning, 42-19.

With a 7-12 record (3-3 in DC play) to begin the week, the Indees hosted Black River Falls on Monday. This Thursday, they’ll head to Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran and they play at New Auburn this coming Tuesday.

Steals helped lead to points for the Indees as they took control of the game early.

The Indees had 20 steals in the game and 15 points off of turnovers as they took a 23-8 lead into halftime. Their defense continued to suffocate the Cardinals in the second half as E-S committed 30 turnovers in the game and shot 17.6 percent from the field.

The Indees shot 27 percent from the field, but they were aggressive and got to the free-throw line where they made 11 of 19 attempts.

Ahnna Bautch led the team with nine points, while Amiah Ives scored seven with nine rebounds and six steals. Bautch added five steals and Adison Pronschinske scored eight points.
