Indees split with BRF, ACL
The Independence girls basketball team earned a split in two games played in Jackson County last week.
The Indees were losing to Black River Falls by 11 points in the second half before a strong finished gave them a 44-39 win. They couldn’t get that kind of finish on Friday as they fell to Alma Center Lincoln 42-28.
The games were the third and fourth in what is a seven-game road trip for the Indees. They played at Whitehall on Tuesday of this week and will head to Gilmanton on Tuesday next week.
Independence as a 4-4 overall record with a 1-2 mark in Dairyland Conference play.

The Indees finished the game with a 27-7 run to get the come-from-behind win.
Independence trailed 32-21 in the second half before their comeback started with a three pointer by Aubrie Pronschinske. Amiah Ives scored the next three points to cut it down to single digits.
After a free throw by Ahnna Bautch and basket by Avery Pape, Pronschisnke connected on another three to bring the Indees within three at 32-29. Pronschinske scored the next basket before Pape gave the Indees the lead with a jump shot.
Pape added another basket to put her team ahead by four and extend the run to 19-0 before two BRF free throws.
The Tigers got within three at 39-36, but the Indees made free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.
The teams were even halfway through the first half as the Indees trailed 13-12 before the Tigers ended the half with a 9-0 run to take a 10-point advantage into halftime.
BRF’s lead grew to 15 early in the second half and it sat there until the Indees made a run.
The teams were mostly even in the box score. The Indees shot two percentage points better, finishing at 32 percent. The Tigers had 40 rebounds to Independence’s 36. The Indees were able to get to the free-throw line more, shooting 27 from the charity stripe with 12 made, compared to BRF’s six-for-12 mark.
Pape led the Indees with 15 points, one more than Pronschinske, while Ives had nine, Bautch, four and Callie Zastrow, two.

The Indees struggled to put the ball in the basket in a loss to the DC-Small’s top team.
Independence shot 29 percent from the field and had 21 turnovers in the game as their offense never got going.
The Hornets stung the Indees with a 13-2 run to start the game and Independence was in catch-up mode throughout the rest of the game.
The Indees trailed 22-13 at halftime and got within seven early in the second half, but the Hornets scored two straight baskets to go back ahead by double digits.
Ives led Independence with eight points while both Aubrie Pronschinske and Bautch scored five, Zastrow and Pape finished with four and Adison Pronschinske had two.
