The Independence/Gilmanton volleyball team is emerging as a threat in the Dairyland Conference after going a combined 6-1 in sets against Whitehall and Cochrane-Fountain City last week.

The Indees took control early in their first set against Whitehall. After the Norse won the second set, I/G controlled the next two for the 3-1 win. All three sets against C-FC on Thursday were close, but I/G came out ahead in all.

I/G began this week with a 7-2 record, including a 3-0 mark in DC play. The Indees hosted Augusta on Tuesday, then will be off until next Tuesday when they host Alma Center Lincoln in Gilmanton.

Norse volleyball team splits with I/G, A/P

The Whitehall volleyball team rallied to win three straight sets and earn a split in Dairyland Conference matches last week.

The Norse had difficulty getting started offensively in a 3-1 loss to Independence/Gilmanton on Tuesday (see story elsewhere in Sports). The Norse again struggled offensively early against Alma/Pepin on Thursday when Whitehall fell behind 0-2. But the Norse won the next three sets to earn the 3-2 match victory.

The matches put Whitehall’s record at 7-4 on the season and 2-1 in Dairyland Conference action. Whitehall played at Melrose-Mindoro on Tuesday and will be at Alma Center Lincoln on Thursday. Next Tuesday, the Norse head to Cochrane-Fountain City.

Hadley Kulig and Paige Lisowski both had 14 kills to lead the Norse at the net. Lisowski added 17 digs. Rani Waldera had seven kills, while Allaina Currier finished with six kills and two blocks.
