Indees top Panthers in forfeit-filled dual
Independence/Gilmanton wrestlers won four of the five matches that were wrestled as they snuck past Durand 30-28 for a dual win last week Tuesday.
The dual was wrestled in Gilmanton and featured some action early as the Indees won two of the first three matches, but there were only two more matches wrestled over the next 11 weight classes, both I/G wins.
The dual win evened I/G’s record at 2-2 on the season before they go to Blair-Taylor for a match on Thursday of this week and wrestle at Osseo-Fairchild on Saturday.

After Durand took a 4-0 lead with a major decision, they didn’t win another match outside of forfeits.
Jackson Konter (126) put the Indees ahead with a first-period pin over Lucas Traun before Gael Leon pinned Lexus Carmody in 56 seconds to make the score 12-0.
After Durand received a forfeit at 138 pounds, Connor Smieja (145) pinned Dawson Hartung at the end of the first period and Ethan Severson (152) received a forfeit to put the Indees ahead 24-10.
Ethan Weiss (170) brought Durand closer with a forfeit before Gavin Bragger (195) pinned Connor Voth in the first period to essentially clinch the win for the Indees.
Durand received forfeits at 220 and 113 pounds to get closer, but didn’t have enough wrestlers to overcome the Indees.
In addition to the five forfeits in the match, there were double forfeits in the 160, 182, 285 and 106 pound classes.
