Indees win regional opener, fall to B-T
After winning its Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament opener, the Independence/Gilmanton softball team ran into a powerhouse.
The Indees broke their game against Kickapoo open late as they went on for a 9-1 win last week Tuesday. On Thursday, however, they struggled defensively against the top-ranked Division Five team in the state in a 14-1 loss to Blair-Taylor (see story elsewhere in Sports).
The Indees finished the season with a record of 12-9.

A five-run fifth inning broke the game open for the Indees.
The Indees took the lead on an Emma Cowen single in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 1-0.
The scoring started in the fifth with an Amiah Ives groundout that brought Aubrie Pronschinske home. Adison Pronschinske and Rhianna Theisen followed with singles to make the score 4-0.
Cowen added her second RBI single of the game two batters later before Theisen scored on a passed ball that put the Indees ahead 6-0.
Consecutive singles put Kickapoo on the board in the top of the sixth, but that’s all they’d get.
Ives and Adison Pronschinske had consecutive hits with one out in the seventh. After a fielder’s choice, Pronschinske scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Maggie Woychik. Cowen then brought in another run on a single to center field, putting the Indees ahead 9-1.
The Indees had 10 hits in the game, led by Cowen’s three-for-four performance with three RBIs. Adison Pronschinske and Theisen both had two hits, Theisen batted in two runs.
Lydia Evans was the winning pitcher, limiting Kickapoo to five hits and two walks while striking out three.
