Jaszewski’s freshman season ends at sectional meet
Arcadia’s Landon Jaszewski put together a freshman season to remember. Though his spring came to an end a little bit short of the state tournament, he still gained valuable sectional experience to help as he continues on with his high school career.
Jaszewski shot an 11-over 83 to finish in a tie for 31st among the 72 golfers competing in last Wednesday’s Division 2 Hayward sectional at Hayward Golf Course.
Jaszewski was unable to make any birdies while also avoiding any crooked numbers throughout his round, carding 11 bogeys and seven pars along the way.
“He struggled with his short game, and usually that’s his strength,” Arcadia head coach Mike Sobotta said of Jaszewski’s sectional round. “He didn’t have a lot of one-putts, he didn’t have a lot of chips close. He just struggled with his short game, and that kind of threw him off a little bit with the score of 83.”
Prescott won the team sectional title with a cumulative score of 312 and Lakeland grabbed the other team state berth with a 314, finishing ahead of Aquinas in third at 316 and both Rice Lake and Saint Croix Central in a tie for fourth at 320.
Lakeland junior Davis Kock and Altoona sophomore Elliot Skinner tied for top medalist honors by each shooting a two-under 70, followed by a three-way tie for third at 73 between Lakeland senior Jeremy Hensen, Prescott senior Tyler Reiter and Hayward junior Liam Aldoff.
Rounding out the rest of the top 10 in the individual standings were Saint Croix Central junior Braiden Rasmussen, Medford junior Zachary Hintz and Tomahawk senior Sawyer Hanna in a tie for sixth at 74 and both Aquinas freshman James Siegert and Rice Lake sophomore Ben Vande Voort in a tie for ninth at 75.
Skinner, Aldoff and Rasmussen earned the three individual state qualifying spots up for grabs at the sectional. Rasmussen needed to win a playoff to become the third and final individual state qualifier from the sectional. He defeated Hanna and Hintz on the first playoff hole with a birdie while the other two parred.
As for Jaszewski, his freshman season came to a close on a day where he didn’t have his best. But Sobotta’s message to Jaszewski is to focus on all the positives from this spring — including earning first-team All-Coulee honors and finishing in the top five at regionals — as he moves ahead toward his sophomore year.
“I hope he takes that the overall season was very good for him,” Sobotta said. “I’m hoping he doesn’t just remember yesterday because one day does not represent the season he had. He had a very good season for a young kid. He had an excellent season for a young freshman. I was really happy with his performance.”

Blair-Taylor junior Kyle Jahr missed the cut for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Championships by just four strokes.
Jahr shot a 14-over 84 at last week Tuesday’s WIAA Division Three Williams Bay Sectional, held in Delevan. The final individual qualifier was Avari Steiner of Argyle Pecatonica, who fired an 80. Jahr tied for 17th overall.
The B-T golfer shot a 41 on the front nine and an 84 on the back. He finished with the best score amongst golfers who qualified for the sectional competition as individuals.
Durand-Arkansaw and Cochrane-Fountain City both shot 315 to finish at the top of the team standings. D-A won a playoff hole to claim the sectional title, though both teams advanced to the state tournament. Eleva-Strum finished third with a 344. The top two teams and three individuals not on those teams advanced to play at University Ridge in Madison earlier this week.
