La Crosse team wins Pleasantville tournament

Silver Star Nutrition of La Crosse won the 2021 Pleasantville Lions Club’s Fourth of July fastpitch softball tournament held last weekend.

The La Crosse team beat Strikers Lanes of Baldwin to win the championship with Ffats Brewing of Whitehall taking third and Weiner’s Bar of Ettrick taking fourth.

Blair-Taylor graduate T.J. Nereng was the winning pitcher for Silver Star, scattering six hits and striking out five in the championship game. He also added a two-run single as part of a four-run third inning.

Silver Star finished the tournament undefeated, beating Cushing 3-1, Pleasantville Lions 4-2 and Ffats 7-4. Strikers lost their first game in the double elimination tournament to Weiner’s, 4-0, then won two before taking a rematch against Weiner’s to advance to the championship round.

Ffats defeated another Whitehall team, Johnson Hardware, in the opening round before topping Weiner’s 2-1. Ffats then lost to Silver Star and to Strikers.

In addition to beating Strikers in the opening round, Weiner’s topped Cushing in the consolation bracket as they went 2-2 on the day.

Pleasantville beat Foster Fireside in the first round, but lost its next two to Silver Star and Strikers. Cushing’s only win came over Foster, which was 0-2.
